About Ocean City Boardwalk

Ocean City Boardwalk is a Highlight of This Traditional Maryland Resort

Approaching three miles in length, Ocean City Boardwalk is the pride of this major resort on America’s east coast. The permanent wooden structure enables visitors to join residents as they wander its length, admiring some pretty amazing hotels and restaurants along the way. Today, Ocean City Boardwalk never closes; although, during the 1960s, it was completely destroyed by storms. Beautifully renovated, it now has unusual appeal for pedestrians and those seeking easy access to their beach hotels at all times of the day and night.

Many Ocean City Boardwalk Hotels are Open all Year

Ocean City visitors enjoy easy access if flying into the Frederick Municipal Airport which is only around four miles from the hotels on the Boardwalk. For visitors, Maryland certainly has clearly defined seasons, all of which have their individual appeal. It is, though, the summer months when crowds swell considerably and the May to September period is not just the busiest; but it is the hottest, most humid, and the most expensive. Advice from the locals is to book well in advance before prices rocket, and this is quite easy to do. A visit to trivago is a simple and quick way to search for and book the best hotel of your choice.

It is well worth noting that the spring and autumn periods are when the crowds, heat, and prices, are all less intense. The winter weather has special appeal with the occasionally snow-covered Boardwalk looking quite magical and spectacular. Many hotels remain open all year and the Christmas Parade, shows at the Performing Arts Center, and indoor ice skating and mini-golf, ensure that there are always plenty of things to do in Ocean City.

Walk Across Water, From Boardwalk Hotels to the Isle of Wight

Now, there’s a thought. The Isle of Wight’s name registers immediately with UK visitors to Ocean City; but, unlike the UK one, you can actually walk along a pathway and across Isle of Wight Bay to this Ocean City attraction. Here, you’ll find an utterly peaceful conservation area where animals roam in their natural habitat. Ocean City Boardwalk is also only a couple of miles from the fun and games at Splash Mountain Water Park, and it’s not against the odds that you’ll be tempted to make the six-mile trip to the real horse racing at Ocean Downs Casino. Multiple golf courses, skateboarding, and fishing, are among the activities that combine to make your Maryland, oceanfront holiday escape so memorable.

Boardwalk Hotels are Where Castles in the Sand are Never Washed Away

You get a real picture of how popular the resort is when you see that, still set on the beach, and yet around four miles from the Boardwalk, is the massive, self-catering, Marigot Beach Suites complex. Thankfully, the equally impressive and welcoming Clarion Resort Fontainebleau Hotel is just over 100 yards from the Suites and is extremely popular with self-caterers who prefer dining in some style. On the Boardwalk beach itself, look out for the Quality Inn Boardwalk and for the imaginatively titled and longstanding, Castle in the Sand Hotel, which has the largest pool in Ocean City, free summer activities for children, and even an ice cream shop.
