Positive Reviews

Clean hostel with expansive communal area.

Previous guests have been impressed with the cleanliness of the hostel, including dorms and shared bathrooms. Meanwhile, an expansive communal lounge proves popular, thanks in part to the comfy sofas and easy chairs. Guests can also enjoy board games, books, TV and more in the lounge.

Pancakes for breakfast.

Many guests enjoy tucking into pancakes in the morning, courtesy of the hostel. These early morning treats are offered free, although a donation is welcomed. A well-equipped communal kitchen is also available for guests to use.

Two blocks from Cannery Row.

The hostel is situated just two blocks from Cannery Row, the main area of Monterrey for those looking for a restaurant or hoping to do a spot of shopping. Many of the city's other tourist attractions are within walking distance or a short bus journey away.

Negative Reviews

Shower arrangements awkward for some.

With California often facing drought-like conditions, water preservation in the state is very important. To help save water, the hostel operates a coupon system that restricts the time guests can spend in the shower. Whilst an understandable arrangement, some guests find this to be an awkward set-up, pointing out that they're not given enough time to thoroughly wash their hair.

No lockers in dorms.

Previous guests have been disappointed to learn that individual lockers are no longer provided in dorms. As such, some guests are wary of leaving their belongings unattended.

Beds aren't always comfortable.

A number of guests have been critical of the beds found in the hostel's dorms and private rooms. Some guests have found mattresses to be too soft, while others point out that beds can be squeaky or noisy.
