About The Village House

The Village House is a hideaway lodge bordering the Bako National Park, a 25-minute drive from Kuching. Within remote natural surroundings, this hotel, constructed using indigenous wooden architecture, makes for a tranquil getaway.

There is accommodation for a range of budgets, from the two luxury Rajan suites with private verandas to the two House rooms – dormitories sleeping six in bunk beds. The standard rooms include solid timber four-poster beds, rain showers and air conditioning.

Guests can relax around the large swimming pool, on a reclining chair or hammock, or in the tropical gardens. The Village House also features a terrace as well as a common lounge with a library and boardgames.

Local and international cuisine are available in the hotel's restaurant, and the Flying Frog bar is a great place to unwind with a drink.

A shuttle service takes guests to the base of Mount Santubong, just a three-minute drive away. The Sarawak Cultural Village is five kilometres from the accommodation.

Positive Reviews

Peaceful, environment to really chill out

Travellers looking for some respite from the noises and stress of the city would be well advised to stay in this serene retreat. Guests love the tranquil, natural atmosphere – away from civilisation in a remote spot – ideal for visiting the neighbouring national park. They feel well in this wonderful accommodation with a beautiful and clean pool, delightful tropical gardens and sumptuous decor. There is an uncrowded natural beach nearby, too, and precious few tourists in the surrounding area.

Staff get it right

The hotel's personnel seem to strike the right balance overall between being friendly and welcoming and suitably discreet. Guests say they are always attentive when necessary, without being overbearing, and know when to give them sufficient privacy and space.

Good food

Guests are generally very pleased with the quality and range of the local and international dishes served in the restaurant and bar. Very flavoursome, they also come in large portions and are well-presented.

Negative Reviews

Wake-up calls can be disturbing

Guests warn travellers that they need to be prepared to be awoken every morning at five o'clock. The sound of the call to prayer from the local mosque ringing out daily is something they simply have to get used to.

Questionable value

Guests often wonder whether the premium price they pay to stay here is justified or not. They reckon they could get better value elsewhere. There is also a feeling that the restaurant is quite expensive and that guests are held captive, to a degree, as there is nothing else nearby.
