About Severn Valley Railway

The Severn Valley Railway runs between Bridgenorth in the North and Kidderminster in the South, along a track that was once a regular section of the national rail network until economic conditions meant it was no longer viable and the original railway was closed in 1963.

A group of rail enthusiasts set up a society to raise money to buy a length of track, a locomotive and some carriages and to carry out preservation work. Over the years, further fundraising enabled the society to increase the length of the railway to its current extent.

The SVR runs regular services at weekends throughout the year and daily during the national school holidays. Special services include 'A Day Out With Thomas' featuring trains from the Thomas the Tank Engine stories, as well as 'Jazz trains'.

Tickets for the regular service depend on the length of the journey, the age of the traveller and the class travelled. For example an adult return ticket for the entire length of the railway costs £13 with a supplement of £3 each way for an upgrade to first class.
